Last Letter is a fast-paced word game where each answer must start with the last letter of the previous word. Play locally with friends or challenge players online through Game Center.

Choose a Category

Pick from Countries, Animals, Dog Breeds, Sports, Car Brands, or create a custom School category with your own words.

Say or Type Your Answer

Use your voice with the built-in speech recognition, or tap "Type instead" to enter answers manually.

Keep the Chain Going

Your answer must start with the last letter of the previous word. Think fast — the clock is ticking!

The player who runs out of time or cannot think of a valid word loses the round. Last one standing wins!

Yes, completely free. Last Letter has no ads, no in-app purchases, and no subscriptions. Every feature is available from the moment you download it.
Not for local play. You can play pass-and-play with friends without any internet connection. Online multiplayer through Game Center does require a stable internet connection.
2 or more players locally — just pass the phone between turns. For online multiplayer, you can challenge other players through Game Center for head-to-head matches.
Make sure you have granted Last Letter microphone and speech recognition permissions. You can check these in Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and Settings > Privacy & Security > Speech Recognition.

If voice input still does not work, tap the "Type instead" button to switch to manual text entry as a fallback.
Last Letter includes six built-in categories: Countries (196), Animals (180+), Dog Breeds (196), Sports (80), Car Brands (50+), and School (custom).

The School category lets you create your own custom word lists, perfect for classrooms or themed game nights.
Yes! Last Letter automatically detects external displays via AirPlay. When connected, the game displays on the big screen so everyone in the room can follow along.
Last Letter requires an iPhone or iPad running iOS 26 or later. iPad features a dedicated layout with landscape three-column view and portrait card-based mode.
Absolutely. All game data stays entirely on your device. Last Letter does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information. Voice recognition is processed on-device by iOS. We do not use analytics, trackers, or third-party SDKs.
Online multiplayer uses Game Center. To play online, make sure:

• You are signed in to Game Center in Settings > Game Center
• You have a stable Wi-Fi or cellular connection
• Game Center services are not experiencing an outage (check Apple System Status)

If matchmaking takes too long, try cancelling and starting a new match.

Troubleshooting

App freezes or crashes

Force-quit the app and reopen it. If the issue persists, make sure you are running the latest version from the App Store and that your device is updated to the latest iOS.

Microphone permission denied

Go to Settings > Last Letter and enable the Microphone toggle. You may need to restart the app after changing permissions.

No sound effects

Check that your iPhone is not on Silent mode (flip the hardware switch on the side). Also verify that the in-game volume is not muted.

Timer seems too fast

The timer duration adjusts based on game difficulty settings. Check your difficulty settings before starting a new game to select a comfortable time limit.

AirPlay display not detected

Make sure your iPhone and the AirPlay receiver (Apple TV, smart TV) are on the same Wi-Fi network. Open Control Center and verify Screen Mirroring is active.
